Glad you asked Logan Glass installs Shower Enclosures in renovation projects as well as new construction, you think it up we'll get the job done.

A framed shower door is constructed of thinner less expensive glass 1/8" to 3/16". It utilizes metal to strengthen the enclosure.

A frameless shower enclosure is made up of 3/8" to ½" tempered and polished safety glass which is strong and sturdy enough to use minimal metal only to secure panels in place instead of strengthening them.

A frameless shower door will increase the value of your home, lasts three to four times longer than a framed shower door, and eliminates almost all the metal framing. In addition, your frameless shower door can always be cleaned to "like new" condition. Frameless doors open in and out verses a framed door, which opens out only. Frameless shower doors also eliminates the type of corrosion that is associated with a framed shower door.

The maintenance is mostly preventive maintenance. You can do this by using a tic surface protector which fills the pores of the glass making it smooth and preventing hard water build up, mineral deposits, and soapy water stains. Using a squeegee daily will also help to keep your shower enclosure clean.

What types of issues do I need to be concerned with when making a decision to purchase either a frameless or framed shower door? Are the issues the same?

The issues vary quite a bit.

The problem with framed shower doors is that the water drains into a track, which will hold water, not letting all the water drain out. This creates several problems. The worst problem is in the corners where the metal framing meets the tile. Water will stand there, eventually eating away the grout. This can cause water damage resulting in an expensive re tiling job and possibly termites, which are attracted to moist, and rotting wood. Trapped and standing water can also cause bacteria to grow which over time will result in an unsanitary condition and bad odor. Corrosion can also occur in areas in the metal framing where hard water deposits, soapy water, cleaners, and so on, can get trapped, resulting in deterioration of the shower door framing.

With a frameless shower door, you obviously do not have any of the above problems because you have eliminated the metal meeting metal problem. There is nowhere for water to be trapped on the little bit of metal on a frameless panel. The only place you would have metal is where you have to secure a fixed panel of glass. Something has to secure the glass to the tile, however the method used ensures a watertight seal and provides a sleek attractive appearance. The frameless door itself has no metal around it at all.

The initial cost is more, however in the long run frameless shower enclosures are less expensive.

Yes, most definitely! Whether your client is going to sell their home now or in ten or twenty years from now, a frameless shower enclosure can always be cleaned to "like new" condition and will enhance and beautify the bathroom with a touch of elegance. The bathroom and the kitchen are the most looked at areas in a home from perspective buyers.

The most common things to be considered are:

  • Where do I want my door?
  • What side do I want my shower door hinges on (frameless doors swing in and out).
  • How high do I want my enclosure to go?
  • What finishes are my other fixtures and do I want to keep everything the same finish?

No. They are the easiest of all shower doors to clean. By eliminating that entire shower door framing, you are left with just glass, which can always be easily cleaned to "like brand new" condition.

They will last as long as the tile holds them up.

We offer many high quality accessories to enhance your frameless shower enclosure.
